Vermont Day 3

Day Three: Tuesday October 3, 2017

We went to breakfast at a little diner near Montpelier called Wayside. It was super good and super cheap. Jake and I both got french toast and sausage. Both were amazing. After breakfast, we went back into Montpelier to stop in at the newly re-opened NECI bakery. We each got some snacks for the road.

We headed out on our way to Quechee Gorge. We stopped at a really cute antique shop in Barre on the way and found some really cool stuff. Jake got a gorgeous cast iron tea pot and I picked up a set of maps from the 90’s. We saw some great scenery on the way down to the gorge. The gorge was absolutely gorgeous and the pictures simply don’t do it justice.

It was senior tour bus city but that didn’t stop us from taking a walk down to the dam. I am really happy that we did. It was so cool. The dam was so old that it was made out of wood. I have never seen anything like it before.

On the way back to Stowe, we took the long way to see some more amazing scenery. We went along RT 4 to Rt 100 and up into Stowe. We passed through Woodstock and stopped at a cute farmers market and bought some more apple cider. We stopped at a little antique shop along the way but it wasn’t nearly as cool as the first. Along RT 100, we passed by Moss Glenn Falls and I saw them just in time to stop in the little parking lot on the side of the road. It was so gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.

After Moss Glenn, we went on to Warren Falls. We had a lot more fun here. We got to play on the rocks and naturally, Jake got soaked. But we had a great time. The falls here weren’t as dramatic as the first, but they were still really cool. And the water was really cold!!

Because Jake likes to play in water, we had to stop back in at the hotel for him to change before dinner. We went to Doc Ponds for dinner. Because I can’t pass up a good burger, I got the burger. And it was delicious. Not quite as good as Three Penny, but it was good. Jake got the Cubano. He thought it was really good. We both shared the VT Cheddar Fritters. They were absolutely amazing. There really isn’t much that is better than fried cheese… I also tried an amazing cider from Citizen Cider. It was really freaking good. The only thing that sucked was that we couldn’t find it in stores.

After dinner, we went to the Waterbury Reservoir to see if we could see the sunset. Unfortunately, the mountains blocked it but it was an awesome view. We also got to see the moon rise. You can’t really see it in the pictures, but it was one of the prettiest things we saw all week.

On the way back to the hotel, we stopped in the store to get some Vermont made ice cream. When we got back to the hotel, we got in bed, ate our ice cream, and went to bed. It was a great day!
